Hours: Monday - Friday, 07:30 - 16:30

A Tree Surgery Groundsman plays a crucial role in assisting the Tree Surgeon with the maintenance and removal of trees. This position involves a combination of manual labour, equipment operation, and safety management to ensure that all tree surgery activities are conducted efficiently and safely. The Groundsman is responsible for preparing the site, clearing debris, handling tools, and providing support to the Tree Surgeon during tree surgery operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Preparation and Cleanup:
    • Assist in setting up and preparing the site for tree surgery operations, including laying out tools and equipment.
    • Clear the work area of debris, brush, and any obstructions to ensure a safe and clean workspace.
    • Perform thorough site cleanup after the completion of tree work, including chipping branches, stacking logs, and raking.
  • Equipment Handling and Maintenance:
    • Safely operate and maintain various tools and equipment such as chainsaws, wood chippers, and stump grinders.
    • Conduct routine maintenance checks on tools and machinery, reporting any issues to the Lead Arborist or Tree Surgeon.
    • Assist in the proper loading and unloading of equipment and materials at the job site.
  • Support for Tree Surgery Operations:
    • Provide direct support to the Tree Surgeon, including rigging, lowering branches, and assisting with climbing gear.
    • Ensure a constant and safe supply of tools and materials to the Tree Surgeon during operations.
    • Communicate effectively with the Tree Surgeon to ensure smooth and coordinated efforts throughout the job.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks during tree surgery operations.
    • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and safety boots at all times.
    • Be aware of and comply with environmental regulations and best practices, particularly when working near protected areas or wildlife.
  • Customer Interaction:
    • Engage courteously with clients on-site, answering any questions or concerns they may have regarding the work being performed.
    • Assist in ensuring that client properties are left in a clean and tidy condition after job completion.

Qualifications:

    • A valid driver’s license is required.
    • CS30.1, CS30.2, CS31, climb a tree and conduct aerial rescue certificates required.
    • First aid certification and chainsaw operation certificates required.
