Residential Children’s Home Manager, to be registered with Ofsted as the manager

Location: Deal, Kent

Salary: Negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience

The Role

The position of the Registered Manager is a varied one and no written job description can cover all eventualities and therefore, the description may be amended from time to time without change to the level of responsibility appropriate to the grade of the post.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for all staff, delegating tasks effectively and appropriately.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of their responsibilities in relation to adherence of policies, both in the home, the organisation and those set out within Legislation and Regulations.
  • To devise and be part of an on-call rota with senior staff members in line with the organisations policy.
  • To ensure that staffing emergencies are covered, with the responsibility of shift cover ultimately being that of the manager.
  • Work in collaboration with the organisation to assist in managing all employee relations within the home, in line with current employment legislation and the organisation’s policies and procedures.
  • To proactively promote and market the resources of the organisation ensuring that the home has a full capacity of staff and young people.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to and work within the organisations Statement of Purpose and function, philosophy of care, policies and procedures established in the organisation and the home.
  • Responsible for the Health and Safety requirements of the home and therefore expected to follow Company policies, to acquaint yourself with the Fire, Health and Safety Procedures at your place of work and carry out relevant risk assessments of unsafe practices and conditions that present a safety risk, reporting these to the Directors as necessary.
  • To develop, review and update policies and procedures in line with the Quality Standards Framework 2015, Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
  • Work within the code of confidentiality and ensure that records in the home are stored and held in a manner which is compliant with regulations.
  • To have Child Protection and Safeguarding systems and processes in place which all staff understand, and are trained and compliant with.
  • Develop and make known to staff a variety of intervention strategies regarding behaviour management. To assist children and support them in development of coping mechanisms and changes in patterns of behaviour.
  • Ensure that all administrative requirements of the home are maintained in such a way that they are compliant with good childcare practice, homes procedures, company policies and children's regulations.
  • To ensure that the administration of financial records related to matters in the home are within the prescribed time scales.
  • Take a lead in ensuring meetings and reviews of children and staff are delivered within required time scales.
  • Manage and monitor labour costs, staffing structures and Rota’s, ensuring they meet requirements of the children’s needs and are in line with allocated budgets.
  • To support the staff team with contributing to the assessment, planning and attendance with review meetings of the young people and where appropriate to provide written reports for these meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma (QCF) qualified in Children Young People’s workforce.
  • Minimum of four year’s experience
  • Effective leadership qualities and experience leading a team
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, outside agencies, children and families.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Reporting and recording to a high standard.
  • To manage staff conflicts in a fair and sensitive manner
  • Carry out supervision of staff and monitor progress
  • Monitor staff competence through various means
  • To attend relevant meetings and act in a professional manner
  • To be able to update and implement risk assessments, care plans and behaviour management plans  for young people
  • To be aware of relevant health and safety legislation to be followed within the home
  • To be able to recognise, address and carry out effective disciplinary procedures
