In this role, The Electrical Project Engineer plans and delivers the electrical power work scope for individual projects within a programme, ensuring timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will work closely with clients, contractors, and cross-functional teams to deliver successful projects that meet technical specifications and client expectations.

They apply proven abilities to the electrical power elements to multiple projects, alone or as part of a multi-disciplined project team. A project could consist of: Data Centre Cooling packages, Heat Transfer packages, Pump packages, Boiler plant packages, Chiller / Cooling Tower plant packages, standalone Control Systems or similar. They possess Project Management skills and have a strong focus on providing excellent Customer Care.


Key Accountabilities

Electrical System Design:

  • Develop comprehensive electrical designs, including wiring layouts, panel schematics, single-line diagrams, and power distribution plans. Clear communication of electrical layout requirements and hours, free of defects and compliant to customer specification / Armstrong standards.
  • Conduct engineering calculations for load requirements, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, and power factor correction to ensure safe and efficient systems.
  • Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP) to create accurate and detailed technical drawings and ensure design consistency with project goals.

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables with stakeholders to align electrical components with overall project requirements.
  • Adherence to project milestone review and approval process
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, etc, as well as client and contractors, to ensure electrical systems integrate smoothly with other project components.
  • Develop detailed project schedules for electrical tasks, track progress, and make adjustments as needed to maintain alignment with the master project schedule.
  • Oversee the documentation of project activities, including progress reports, test results, and final project handover documents.

Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure all designs and installations adhere to relevant electrical codes and safety standards, including NEC, OSHA, and IEEE.
    • Perform risk assessments on electrical designs, identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards.
    • Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and compliance with safety standards, making adjustments as needed.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

    • Provide on-site support during installation and testing phases, guiding technicians and contractors to ensure compliance with design specifications.
    • Troubleshoot electrical issues that arise during project execution, diagnosing problems quickly and implementing effective solutions to keep the project on track.
    • Oversee commissioning of electrical systems, verifying proper operation and addressing any deficiencies.

Cost Estimation and Budget Management:

    • Prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical components and systems, including materials, labour, and equipment.
    • Monitor project expenses against budgets, identifying and addressing variances, and finding cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance.
    • Assist with procurement by specifying materials, selecting vendors, and verifying equipment meets project standards.

Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain comprehensive project records, including design calculations, technical drawings, installation procedures, test results, and commissioning documentation.
    • Prepare regular status reports on project progress, challenges, and solutions for internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Compile as-built documentation at project completion for future reference, maintenance, and regulatory compliance

What Were Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. HND Level 4 minimum requirement.
  • Experience: Substantial work experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a project-oriented environment such as construction, industrial, or renewable energy.
  • Certifications: PMP certification, APMG or Prince 2 qualification, 18th Edition qualification. Auto CAD experience/qualification
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., Microsoft Office and Project, AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP) and strong understanding of electrical theory and systems.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct complex calculations and solve technical problems effectively.
  • Project Management: Solid understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively interacting with team members, stakeholders, and clients. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to project standards and safety guidelines. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Other: Located in Droitwich Spa with possible travel to customer sites within the EMEA region. When not travelling in EMEA region, attendance in the office required Monday-Friday. Full driving licence required.
