We are recruiting a Sustainability, Environmental Compliance and Bid Manager to work for a leading manufacturing company based in Dudley. This is a brand-new position for the business so if you want to make your mark this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

There will be an opportunity for Hybrid working.

Due to continued international growth our award-winning designer and manufacturer has a new and exciting role to manage the delivery, governance and reporting of a long term, robust and credible sustainability strategy for the Group; thus helping to position the Group as an industry leader to assist with revenue growth through bid compliance and environmental and social enhancements.

This role will play a vital part in delivering, reporting, and communicating this vision, both internally and externally, and will work with all our business units and functions (mostly in the UK and USA, but also working with our global supply chain) acting as a catalyst for sustainable strategies and change.


The main duties will be :

  • Provide strategic environmental, social and sustainability support to the Board.
  • Manage the development process, delivery and updates to the Group's Sustainability strategy, helping to position our client as an industry leader in sustainability and to successfully drive sales and business growth.
  • Monitoring competitor/customer/industry sector sustainability strategies, targets and requirements and incorporating these as appropriate to ensure that Boss's strategy meets current and future business needs and enables us to remain competitive in its core markets.
  • Act as a 'business partner' for sustainability, providing advice and support as needed, connecting departmental leaders with technical guidance and training to ensure alignment with the Group's strategic plans and objectives with regard to ESG.
  • Utilising external consultants and practitioners and the Group's marketing function as appropriate to ensure sustainability reporting meets relevant global standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather information from across the business to generate a factual and robust response.
  • Answer the questions posed clearly, accurately and truthfully. Every bid should be written persuasively, ensuring that the value we can bring to any given contract is obvious to those scoring the bids.
  • Work with our marketing team to develop a suitable tone of voice that reflects each customer's profile.
  • Work with the wider team to develop consistent grammar and lexicon, so that each bid feels harmonious, regardless of which members of the team have contributed text to each section.
  • Upload bids onto our customers' chosen IT platform, understanding any constraints around the formatting of responses and maximum size of files for upload
  • Make yourself an expert in the relevant clauses of BREEAM, LEED and WELL v2.
  • Gather information from our component suppliers and their materials and finishes supply-chain to allow you to build a comprehensive picture of each product at base material and chemical level.
  • Build a detailed understanding of what is required to pursue Cradle-to-Cradle certification and then work with the Design Director to ensure that new product development (NPD) is conducted in line with expectations.


The successful candidate will have the following skills:

  • Has a passion to drive sustainability and compliance throughout the business.
  • Has an understanding how the products we manufacture and distribute have an impact on our drive towards sustainability.
  • You'll be expected to provide high-quality advice and drive improvements across our business.
  • An engaging and inspiring team player, with exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills, but with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be able to articulate and present results to demonstrate improvement.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role (preferred, but not essential).
  • Degree/Postgraduate level or equivalent qualifications in sustainability, environmental management, bid writing, project management or similar.
  • Strong knowledge and a keen personal interest of current sustainability best practice, initiatives and key market drivers including carbon net zero, circular economy and social values, with a passion to drive sustainability throughout the business.
