About the RoleSomerset Council is looking for an experienced and dedicated Project Accountant to join their team for a contract role, focusing on the financial management of various Economic Development Regeneration Capital projects. As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing project finances, ensuring accurate budgeting, financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage capital project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial goals.

Monitor project performance and provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.

Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and council policies.

Provide financial guidance and support to project teams, helping to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Prepare financial performance reports for senior management.

Facilitate the integration of financial processes across multiple projects.

Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future project financial management.

Promote continuous improvement in financial management practices.
Requirements

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) and project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are preferred.

Experience: Proven experience in accounting and financial management, ideally within the public sector. Experience managing project finances, preparing reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Skills: Strong analytical, organisational, and time management skills. Proficiency in financial software and tools. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
