About the RoleSomerset Council is looking for an experienced and dedicated Project Accountant to join their team for a contract role, focusing on the financial management of various Economic Development Regeneration Capital projects. As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing project finances, ensuring accurate budgeting, financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in the public sector and contribute to the delivery of important capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage capital project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial goals.

  • Monitor project performance and provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.

  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and council policies.

  • Provide financial guidance and support to project teams, helping to deliver projects on time and within budget.

  • Prepare financial performance reports for senior management.

  • Facilitate the integration of financial processes across multiple projects.

  • Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future project financial management.

  • Promote continuous improvement in financial management practices.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) and project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are preferred.

  • Experience: Proven experience in accounting and financial management, ideally within the public sector. Experience managing project finances, preparing reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Skills: Strong analytical, organisational, and time management skills. Proficiency in financial software and tools. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, project management methodologies, financial regulations, and compliance.
