Overview of the roleThe post supports the provision of resilient tree preservation and management across the wider Council, being a key specialism within the planning service.

Summary of Responsibilities and Duties

  • TPO and Conservation Area Management: Process applications and notifications for works to trees under Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)
  • Tree Preservation and Hedgerow Regulation: Prepare and update TPOs, process hedgerow removal notifications, and maintain accurate records while addressing objections and ensuring enforcement where needed.
  • Planning and Enforcement Support: Advise on planning applications, enforcement cases, and unauthorized tree or hedgerow works, acting as the Council's technical expert in inquiries, hearings, or court cases.
  • Policy and Project Contribution: Provide arboricultural expertise for planning policies, development briefs, and multi-disciplinary projects to ensure trees are integrated into high-quality environmental outcomes.
  • Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare and present technical reports for committees, inquiries, and public groups, offering specialist advice to other Council departments and external stakeholders as needed.
