Business Development Manager – Nationwide – Freight Sector

Montgomery Freight Management offers a pan-global supply chain solution to provide a complete and seamless product offering for all customers’ logistics requirements.

In conjunction with our worldwide network of partners, our team of experienced freight forwarders understand all aspects of shipping and freight forwarding whilst also importantly fully understand the needs of our customers.

Montgomery Freight Management are now recruiting for a Business Development Manager to join their established team.

Responsibilities:

  • Increasing the sales of full loads & groupage movements across all market sectors (UK Domestic / Irish / European & Deep Sea).
  • Identify new markets and business opportunities and manage these opportunities to become trading partners of the business
  • Identify strategies for improving our market presence
  • Work closely with BDM’s across the entire Transport Group and leverage off existing customer base.
  • Ensure a constant robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within existing and potential client organisations.
  • Research and build relationships with potential new & existing clients.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services and breakthrough into new markets.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
  • Submit weekly progress reports to General Manager highlighting pipeline / conversion / future diary.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s sales management system.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet targets.

The ideal Business Development Manager:

  • Proven working experience in a logistical environment able to demonstrate sound operational and commercial knowledge of the industry
  • Proven sales track record with a strong record of converting opportunities.
  • Ability to work to clearly identified targets.
  • Market knowledge across various transport markets (European, UK Domestic / Irish & Deep Sea).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and liaise with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
  • Time management and planning skills.
  • Confident and resourceful in the face of challenge.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards & procedures.
    • The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales.
    • Travel is required and overnight stays away from home may be required.
    • A flexible approach to working hours is required to meet the needs of the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage a sales pipeline that provides continual growth.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software.
