Project Manager

Somerset

Salary: Negotiable (DOE) + Private medical

Certain Advantage are working with a global Engineering and Technical services firm to hire a Project Manager to be based out of their Somerset offices.

The Opportunity:

Our client is delivering critical work on major UK and European projects, including a new nuclear power station in the South West, the development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, and Poland's first nuclear power station.

Their teams support both client-facing and internal roles, providing project and programme management expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

This Programme of work is responsible for delivering key mechanical, electrical, and process equipment for the power station, working in partnership with a global supply chain. Contracts range from £250k to £150m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the delivery of contract or package activities, ensuring safe, on-time, and on-budget completion while meeting business and technical requirements.
  • Track progress against milestones, deadlines, and budgets, and report to key stakeholders.
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the contract or package. Identify risks, develop and update the programme budget, and escalate issues to the Senior Project Manager.
  • Perform contract administration activities, including variations, claims, technical queries, and instructions, with support from a Commercial Manager.
  • Provide oversight of the Tier 1 supply chain to maintain Nuclear Safety, managing over 100 Tier 2 and 3 international suppliers per contract.
  • Resolve issues during the manufacturing process to maintain quality and schedule.
  • Manage all changes to the contract, including scope definition, business justification, and implementation in line with governance.
  • Ensure Level 3 schedules are developed and maintained, consistent with overall project schedules.Where applicable, ensure Qualification for Nuclear Safety activities are completed to validate equipment performance.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of delivering projects in a complex and dynamic environment, ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or a similar regulated environment.
  • Strong management skills, including project management, financial management, change management, and facilitation. Proficient in estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk tools.
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants, and advisors throughout large, complex construction projects in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent presentation, influencing, and facilitation skills, with strong communication and organizational abilities to build relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, physics, or related field.
  • Knowledge or practical experience in Project Management, with familiarity in APM body of knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
