Locum Senior Democratic Services Officer – Midlands-based Local Authority – Part TimeVenn Group is currently recruiting for a Senior Democratic Services Officer on behalf of a well-regarded Midlands-based Council. This is an interim position to provide urgent cover for a period of at least two months.Key Details:Start Date: ASAP StartDuration: Initial 2 months with the possibility of extension thereafterWorking Pattern: Part-time, 20 hours per weekHybrid Working: Minimum 1 day per week in the office (attendance required at full Council, Council, and Scrutiny meetings)Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior-level Democratic Services support, ensuring the smooth operation of Council meetings
  • Guide and oversee the work of a Junior Democratic Services Officer
  • Advise on governance and procedural matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
  • Support Scrutiny functions, offering expertise and assistance in this area
  • Collaborate closely with the Democratic & Electoral Services Manager and the wider governance team

Person Specification:

  • Proven senior-level experience within Democratic Services
  • Ability to mentor and support junior staff
  • Strong Scrutiny knowledge and ability to provide guidance in this area
  • Proactive and knowledgeable in local government governance
