Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Place Finance Specialist to provide expert financial leadership and drive transformational change across key service areas. This is a newly created interim role, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact in a complex public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities:-
Provide expert financial analysis, insight, and advice to support robust business cases for transformational change, cost reduction, and income generation.

Work collaboratively with service teams to develop and implement sustainable financial strategies.

Offer constructive challenge and financial guidance to senior stakeholders, from Executive Directors to individual Budget Holders.

Support the permanent finance team, sharing expertise to establish best practices and develop internal capability.

Engage with elected members on financial projects where required.

Assist the Head of Finance Business Partnering in ensuring high standards of financial evaluation, procedures, and options appraisal.
-CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant with substantial experience in public sector finance.-Proven track record of delivering financial change and cost-saving initiatives in complex organisations.-Strong stakeholder management and the ability to challenge and advise at all levels.-Experience in developing financial models to support strategic decision-making.
