Place Finance Specialist - InterimLocation: County Hall, Somerset (Hybrid)Rate: £800 per day (Inside IR35)Contract: 14/04/2025 - 17/10/2025 (37 hours per week)

Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Place Finance Specialist to provide expert financial leadership and drive transformational change across key service areas. This is a newly created interim role, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact in a complex public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert financial analysis, insight, and advice to support robust business cases for transformational change, cost reduction, and income generation.

  • Work collaboratively with service teams to develop and implement sustainable financial strategies.

  • Offer constructive challenge and financial guidance to senior stakeholders, from Executive Directors to individual Budget Holders.

  • Support the permanent finance team, sharing expertise to establish best practices and develop internal capability.

  • Engage with elected members on financial projects where required.

  • Assist the Head of Finance Business Partnering in ensuring high standards of financial evaluation, procedures, and options appraisal.

Requirements:

-CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant with substantial experience in public sector finance.-Proven track record of delivering financial change and cost-saving initiatives in complex organisations.-Strong stakeholder management and the ability to challenge and advise at all levels.-Experience in developing financial models to support strategic decision-making.
