Job Purpose

This role is based in an environmentally controlled laboratory on an aerospace site within a small, professional local team. The primary responsibilities include inspecting non-metallic and metallic parts and calibrating dimensional hand tools. This is a multifaceted position, with workload divided between inspection, generating First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and calibration tasks.

The position is full-time, 37 hours per week, with flexible working options and additional company benefits. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and hardworking, with excellent communication skills. Responsibilities

  • Inspect non-metallic and metallic parts using non-contact measurement techniques and standard hand tools.
  • Independently generate, populate, review, and submit First Article Inspection Reports (FAIs) to AS9102 standards.
  • Perform ad hoc inspection requests and produce detailed inspection reports.
  • Calibrate various dimensional measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers, and screw gauging tools.
  • Calibrate go/no-go and acceptance fixtures.
  • Follow established calibration procedures and develop new procedures for instrumentation where required.
  • Provide product and quality support to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Investigation departments, including fault-finding tasks using technical drawings.
  • Deliver training to trainee technicians on metrology principles and resolving complex technical problems.
  • Some travel may be required to fulfil external calibration tasks.

Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • Completion of a mechanical engineering apprenticeship to HNC level or equivalent technical training and certifications.
  • Demonstrable experience in an inspection role within an aerospace or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in producing FAIs to AS9102 standards.
  • Skilled in CMM measuring techniques, vision projectors/microscopes, surface finish evaluation, and using general hand tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO9001, ISO10012, and ISO17025 calibration standards.

Desirable:

  • Experience using Discus and FAI reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in roundness, concentricity, and surface finish equipment.
  • Familiarity with MS Office programmes, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Understanding of Uncertainty of Measurement Analysis.

Qualifications and Certifications
