Venn Group are currently working with an NHS organisation in the South West, who are seeking a Children’s Safeguarding Lead to ensure that structures, systems, policies and processes are in place and effective across the organisation.

Main duties of the job:

  • Use significant expert knowledge of safeguarding children, child protection and children in care and the legislative frameworks and statutory guidance to improve outcomes for children
  • Provide specialist information on contemporary issues in safeguarding including, but not limited to, transitional safeguarding, contextual approaches to safeguarding, radicalization, exploitation and the intersection of bias, adultification and minoritized children and young people
  • Facilitate a robust offer of supervision using significant experience of managing complex child protection concerns and advising and supporting health staff to recognise concerns, analyse risk and share information securely
  • Support clinical colleagues with knowledge of the Child Death Overview Panel, the processes and responsibilities following the death of a child
  • Lead on the co-ordination and response to safeguarding incidents, rapid reviews and Child Safeguarding Practice Review processes including scoping records, preparing chronologies, writing Internal Management Reviews, analysis of practice, recommendations and action plans and their monitoring for improvements in practice
  • Participate in statutory review processes for Domestic Homicide Reviews and Safeguarding Adult Reviews to develop own all age knowledge and expertise
  • Undertake audits of practice and with the senior leadership team

Essential Skills:

  • A minimum of 2 years practice working in a safeguarding role with responsibility for giving advice and support to health professionals
  • Experience working within safeguarding legislative frameworks for children
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Children’s Nurse OR Registered as a SCPHN Health Visitor or School Nurse
