WE ARE URGENTLY SEEKING TO HIRE TWO ANALYTICAL SCIENTISTS for ongoing Temporary contracts.
Both roles will be required initially for a 4 - 7 months period, with the strong possibility of them being extended.

There are several projects within the Laboratory pending, so the positions may be reviewed to go on to become permanent for the right people.


We are working in partnership with a Global Premium Brand name withing the FMCG manufacturing sector.

These two positions are based at the companies state of the art facilities on the outskirts of Glasgow. (near Dumbarton)

Salary 41,763 (OR 21.70 PER HOUR)

HOURS - 37 per week - ALL NIGHT SHIFT. (options for Mon - Thur OR Fri/Sat/Sun)

Purpose:
To carry out analysis of company raw ingredients, intermediates, and final products. Log samples in to lab LIMS system, organise retention of samples or disposal in line with lab and HMRC procedures. Maintain and calibrate instruments within the BTC and other relevant departments as required. Ensure records and documents are maintained to a standard that enables continuation of BTC UKAS accreditation to ISO17025.

Scope:

* Perform routine analysis on a range of samples within laboratory to ISO17025.
* Maintain instruments and documents to ISO17025.
* Liaise with various departments within the business and external companies.


Experience Required:
* A degree in a relevant scientific discipline preferred but other relevant qualifications considered.
* Practical experience in a laboratory environment.
* Experience of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred.
* Proficient in the use and understanding of basic wet chemistry, microbiology and analytical instrumental techniques (e.g. FTIR, GC-MS, ICP-MS/OES, HPLC, etc.).
* Experience of sensory/organoleptic testing advantageous.
* An enthusiastic and ambitious learner with the ability to work on own initiative is mandatory.
* Capable of working with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
* Responsive and flexible in coping with necessary changes in priorities.
* A team player possessing good interpersonal skills to liaise across various departments.
* Maintain good laboratory practice at all times.
* Knowledge of COSSH and H&S practices applicable in a laboratory environment.
* High level of computer literacy.
* Holding a current valid driving license is a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure that the quality of the analyses performed provides an efficient and timely response in respect of company intermediate and finished products.
* Ensure that laboratory and other departmental equipment and instrumentation is appropriately calibrated and maintained.
* Booking of samples into the laboratory LIMS system and transfer of samples for storage or disposal post analysis.
* Preparing reports and KPI information from LIMS.
* Liaise with the business to ensure all sample results are reported accurately and on time.
* Provide technical support to the business as required on day to day process optimisation and defined projects.
* Assist with preparation of samples and setting up sample sequences on instruments.
* Assist with testing of materials in contact with company products.
* Perform sensory analysis of product ingredients, washouts, stability trials, etc.
* Operate and verify best practice analytical methods and procedures.
* Ensure all lab glassware washed and stored correctly.
* Accountable for the quantity and quality of personal output.
* Ensure all documents and records (including training records) are maintained to standard required for ISO17025 accreditation.
* Undertake all laboratory analytical activities in a manner consistent with the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures, and the Laboratory Quality Management Systems.
