Berry BPI has developed over the last decade to strategically become one of the largest producers of polythene film products worldwide.

Recycled Products is one of the largest recyclers in Europe, with the scope and expertise to recycle up to 100,000 tonnes each year of post-use material from commercial, retail, industrial and agricultural markets across Environment Agency Accredited Sites, in a closed loop recycling process.

The site in Dumfries employs c60 people and, operating 24/7, processes recycled material to be manufactured into a variety of products including refuse sacks, building products and outdoor furniture, with a demanding customer base customer base in Retail, Healthcare and Industrial markets.

As a Group, and as a Site, Health & Safety is their number one priority, with site accreditation including IS045001 and ISO9001.

Reporting To:

Site Manager

Role Function:

To control, manage and monitor the site Health, Safety and Environmental systems to internal and external standards.

To raise the profile of safety and environmental management across the site.

To advise employees and visitors on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations.

Role Objectives

To be responsible for managing and developing all health & safety and environmental procedures and processes, and the delivery of a dynamic safety culture with the objective of ensuring the safest possible working environment.

To act as the appointed Site Management Representative for the effective operations and development of the QUENSH management system.

To ensure continued compliance with all statutory regulations, permits, customer specific requirements and certified standards.

Responsibilities:

To maintain the company QUENSH Management System in accordance with ISO45001 and ISO14001 standards.

To maintain the Environmental permit and EA accredited re-processor accreditation.

To undertake inspections, audits and periodic meetings to reduce risk of injury or pollution from site activities.

To Chair Management Reviews, Safety Meetings and co-ordinate safety/environment campaigns.

To maintain knowledge and awareness of current environmental and H&S legislation.

To support and advise sites during and after Group Surveillance Visits i.e. Insurance Inspection visits.

To work directly with operational management to deliver practical advice and action to build in Safety and design out risk across the infrastructure, working processes and specific projects.Providing guidance to all employees on H&S/Environmental compliance.

To collate and produce reports on accidents and incidences.Implement any corrective action to reduce the future risk of recurrence.

To advise Management of all incidents reportable under RIDDOR and Environmental Protection Act to arrange the necessary documentation and investigations.Liaise directly with the HSE and/or Environment Agency where required.

To undertake or oversee regular site inspections and audits.

To carry out site H&S and Environmental inspections/assessments e.g. Asbestos, PPE, DSE, and COSHH.

To manage all aspects of safety and environmental risk management, including training, communication, audit management, emergency preparedness and site procedures and policies.

To maintain knowledge of applicable legislation, standards and legal compliance obligations including business continuity plans, fire and water management.

To maintain knowledge of the companys insurance and claims procedure.

To consult with contactors regarding risk assessments and applicable valid licences.

To maintain contractor files to monitor the Companys legal responsibilities are adhered to.

To keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.

To produce statistics and information on request for objectives and targets performance.

To attend divisional meetings to discuss the sites H&S and environmental performance.

To attend such courses/seminars run by external sources to enable accurate interpretation of legislation to enable implementation within the organisation.

Candidate Profile

NEBOSH General Certificate.

NEBOSH Diploma or Equivalent (or training towards or willing to train towards).

Experience of working within a manufacturing environment, in a Health & Safety role.You may already be an experienced Health & Safety Manager, or be in a Health & Safety Advisory role, ready for career progression.

Knowledge of Health & Safety & Environmental legislation.

Experience of managing ISO accredited management systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent organisational and administrative skills.

Highly persuasive communicator.

Be a robust and resilient character with the commercial appreciation of safety in the workplace.

The ability to work unsupervised and able to use own initiative.

Proficiency in IT, including Excel and Outlook.

The ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure deadlines/objectives are met.

The ability to form relationships at all levels.

A desire to continue your own personal professional development.
