Newlands care home is a small family run care home located just off Townhill Road in Dunfermline. Newlands care home cares for 22 elderly residents, helping to support them physically and mentally to have fulfilling and meaningful lives.

We are restructuring our catering department within the home and are looking for two part time cooks to join the team. The hours and work pattern are as follows:

Week 1 Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 10am 5pm.

Week 2 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am 5pm.

This will be a permanent 24.5 hour contract with a fixed shift pattern so you know exactly when your are working and will benefit from every second weekend off.

We are looking for someone who fundamentally enjoys cooking and knows how to make the good old classics that our elderly residents enjoy. They like to try new things and are open to suggestion, but at the end of the day, we are guided by our residents likes and dislikes. The food doesnt have to be fancy, but it needs to taste good, look good and be nutritious. We do have some residents with specific dietary requirements, but this will all be explained and taught by the Care manager when you join the team.

The right person will have the ability to learn quickly and be able to be flexible and accommodating, as although we have set mealtimes, sometimes things happen, and the cook needs to be able to adapt to things that arise and support and accommodate the care staff when they tell you they might need a few extra minutes.

Being highly organised, good at time management and having high standards of cleanliness is a must as you will be working alone in the kitchen to cook and complete any cleaning tasks that are required throughout your shift. We are willing to put the right candidate through their elementary food hygiene certificate and provide them with full training, so this is not essential but previous experience in a kitchen and a food hygiene certificate is an advantage.

Lastly, we are looking for someone who is fun and can make our residents smile with a joke or two. They do like a bit of banter! Residents like to get to know the cook and will always give them a wave on their way past.

If this describes you and you think this is the perfect, stress free, enjoyable job for you and want to join our great team then please apply.

Rate of pay is £12.65 an hour (unpaid breaks) with an hourly enhancement of 30p at weekends.

5.6 weeks holiday a year
