We are looking for a compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our committed team in Dunstable. The ideal candidate will offer vital support to students with PMLD, empowering them to reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive setting.
Key Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
- Assist in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
- Support students with physical needs, including personal care, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their dignity and safety.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment for all pupils.
- Work closely with the SEN team to monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Use specialist equipment and resources to engage students in learning activities.
- Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Requirements of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD in an educational setting.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods is highly desirable.
- Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
