Our client is an established pharmaceutical company engaged in the development, manufacture, marketing and distribution of generic medicines in the UK and Europe.

They offer a wide range of high-quality medicines to the healthcare sector, that optimises cost efficiencies whilst ensuring reliable supply. They are now looking to hire a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering activities at one of the company key manufacturing sites.

The Head of Engineering will lead the engineering department and oversee all engineering activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties:

  • Strategic leadership and direction to the engineering team
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor engineering staff
  • Establish clear goals and objectives for the engineering team
  • Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and facilities
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to support manufacturing operations and process improvements
  • Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Health and Safety regulations, and other relevant guidelines
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audits
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements within the engineering department
  • Lead or support engineering projects aimed at enhancing manufacturing capabilities, implementing new technologies, or upgrading existing infrastructure/equipment etc.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and measure the impact of improvement initiatives
  • Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support business objectives
  • Evaluate capital expenditure proposals and make recommendations for investment in new equipment, technology upgrades, or facility expansions
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and service providers

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Leadership role within the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on engineering and manufacturing operations
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP, FDA, MHRA).
  • project management skills and ability to manage senior stakeholders
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies used in engineering/manufacturing
  • Either a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant practical work expertise in a similar position
