Reed Accountancy is delighted to be working with an amazing client in County Durham in their search for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will involve a variety of accounting tasks, including invoicing, sales ledger management, and bank reconciliations. The successful candidate will receive full training on Opera and Job Logic systems and will play a key role in the Accounts Department.

Working in a close-knit team, your duties will include:

  • Enter timesheets and purchase invoices onto the Opera system to familiarize with the Accounts Department’s routines.
  • Handle sales ledger tasks such as invoicing, processing receipts, issuing monthly statements, and liaising with customers to resolve account queries.
  • Match paid invoices on Opera and Job Logic systems for cash book receipts and remittances.
  • Prepare weekly debtor reports using XRL and assist with month-end and year-end audits.
  • Perform daily checks and updates, monitoring customer accounts for outstanding dues and forecasting potential receivables.
  • Liaise with the Accounts Office Manager and Directors as required and handle ad hoc duties.
  • Understand and manage aspects of the CIS Scheme, including verifying new subcontractors.

You will have:

  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software is preferred.
  • Strong mathematical skills or a similar background.
  • Excellent telephone manners and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.
  • Capable of building and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Commitment to discretion when in contact with clients or their representatives.
