Our tier 1 Water contractor client is seeking a Principal Commercial Manager for their Northumbrian Water framework based out of their Durham office.

Working closely with the Framework Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of the Northumbrian Water - Living Water Enterprise contract, the Enterprise has a contract period of 7 years minimum. You will import the desired levels of commercial rigour and meet the challenge and opportunity to question and change established norms and work with all members of the Framework Enterprise Team to improve commercial management at every level.

Fundamentally the role requires the Principal Commercial Manager to provide commercial support to the project team, maintain commercial information and ensure compliance with contractual requirements. You will liaise with and collaborate extensively with Client representatives along with any appointed third parties on commercial issues arising from the day-to-day requirements of Contract Delivery.

This is a full-time permanent role and will be based from Durham offices along with working from home on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Commercial Team to not only ensure compliance with client systems, processes and procedures on Contracts - but to look to help change and develop.
    Work within strict deadlines required under the Contract(s) and as required
  • Financial monitoring and reporting of Contracts assigned.
  • Assisting and establishing suitable construction contracts with clients to suit procurement needs.
  • Preparation of accurate financial statements in respect of Contracts assigned.
  • Ensuring proper administration of the Contract requirements including all variations to the works.
  • Commercial completion of the Contracts including maintaining contemporary records for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and evaluation of variations.
  • Manage the appointment and ongoing management of subcontractors including payment applications, final accounts etc.
  • Ensure prompt submission of invoices and/or applications of payment to clients.
  • Assist Business Development in producing information for PQQ's and Tenders.
  • Develop the Commercial and Operations Team through training and mentoring.
  • Responsible for Commercial Staff under direct control in respect of timekeeping, technical training, development, resourcing, performance reviews.

Skills/experience/qualifications

  • HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying (RICS or equivalent)
  • Sound experience of the commercial aspects of Contracting.
  • Familiar with ICE and NEC forms of contract along with good knowledge of current Construction Law as well as having a background as a strong commercial manager
  • Able to lead the team, oversee the management and procurement of subcontractors, produce measurement and control cycle certificates, and accruals calculations whilst being accustomed to regular reporting and making earned value analyses.
