SEND Teaching Assistant

Milk Education are working with specialist SEND school in Durham (DH1) who are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant.

The school is a generic special school educating pupils 2-19 years of age, who are autistic or have profound, moderate, severe or complex learning difficulties. Some pupils also have additional medical, physical, sensory, linguistic or behavioural challenges.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting individuals with Autism by implementing tailored care plans and facilitating their development in a nurturing environment.

This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those we serve, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with families and other professionals working across the school. This SEND Teaching Assistant role is to support both students and the class teacher with the day to day running of the classroom. You must be confident to support the KS1 and KS2 children working on a one to one basis and in a group capacity as and when required to do so.

The hours of work are 08:30am- 16:00pm and the hours will be Monday to Friday with a 30 minute lunch break to start after the half term break.

Role and Responsibilities as an SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting with Learning and Developing
  • Working on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Encouraging, Supporting and De-escalating students
  • Being involved across the curriculum, including outdoor learning, PE and Core subjects

We are looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant that is:

  • Passionate about enabling every child to fulfil their potential
  • Able to contribute to, and work, as part of a team
  • Reliable and flexible to suit the expectations of our schools
  • Previous experience working within a educational setting
  • Creative, Pro-active and Enthusiastic Individual
  • Able to work under own initiative
  • Education related qualification preferred but not essential
