English Tutor – Alternative Provision (Durham)We are seeking a dedicated English Tutor to join an alternative education provision in Durham, supporting small groups of students (6-8 per session) who are in Year 7 and above but may be working below expected levels for their age.This provision supports students who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education or have already been excluded, providing them with a tailored learning environment to help them re-engage with their education.This is a part-time, term-time only role, offered on a temporary basis with the potential for a permanent opportunity.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging and tailored English lessons to small groups of learners.
  • Support students in developing their literacy skills and confidence.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of students working below age-related expectations.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to support student progress and well-being.
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
Requirements:
  • Experience tutoring or teaching English, ideally within an alternative provision or SEN setting.
  • Experience working with students who require additional behavioural or emotional support.
  • Strong ability to differentiate lessons to support varying ability levels.
  • A passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Teaching qualification (desirable but not essential).
