We are looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s team in the water industry. Previous experience in this sector is essential to ensure success in this role.

This is a permanent position with the flexibility of hybrid working, offering a great balance between office and remote work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications, ensuring they can be constructed and commissioned efficiently. Consider all associated costs, including design time, material costs, erection, and potential impacts on other disciplines.

  • Ensure the use of standard practices wherever applicable to maintain quality and consistency.

  • Provide accurate estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.

  • Follow established procedures and contribute to the ongoing development of departmental processes.

  • Assist in the development and review of procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Coordinate design efforts with other internal and external disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Maintain up-to-date records and documentation throughout the lifecycle of contracts.

  • Promote customer satisfaction, recognizing its importance in achieving overall project success.

  • Take responsibility for your personal development plan and contribute to the growth and development of team members.

  • Support the creation of a safe working environment and strive to minimize waste across all departmental activities.

  • Ensure designs adhere to environmental and health and safety regulations.

 

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in the technical delivery of process plant systems for complex engineering projects, ideally within the water industry.

  • In-depth understanding of water and sewage treatment processes.

  • Experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers within water and sewage treatment plant projects.

  • Chartered or membership of a relevant professional institution.

  • A relevant engineering degree in a discipline such as Mechanical Engineering.

  • Strong ability to develop rational designs and produce cost-effective plant layouts.

  • General knowledge of various aspects of water treatment, including mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, and project management.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a flexible mindset to handle complex data and scenarios.

  • Proficient in presenting technical proposals in a clear, confident, and convincing manner.

  • Experience with digital design tools for design and construction projects.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Valid driving license.
