About the Role
Team Jobs is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join the team in Christchurch. In this role, you will operate manual machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to produce parts according to blueprints and technical drawings. The position involves tasks such as measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling parts while performing quality checks to ensure accuracy.
Your duties will include:
- Operate manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on materials or workpieces based on blueprints.
- Compute dimensions, tolerances, and layouts for machining tasks.
- Align and secure tools, fixtures, and materials onto machines.
- Calculate and adjust machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut.
- Monitor machine operations to detect and address malfunctions.
- Verify finished workpieces meet exacting specifications through precise measurements.
Employment Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Pay rate: 18.07
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Skilled in operating manual lathes, milling machines, and other equipment.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, speeds, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Requirements:
- Experience in manually controlled machining operations.
- Familiarity with precision tools and shop mathematics.
- Ability to select appropriate cutting tools and perform diverse machining operations.
Personal Traits:
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong mechanical skills and a proactive mindset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
