Your new company We are looking for a Design Manager to join our residential team in our Southern region, initially focusing on the Dorset and Hampshire areas. The role is ideally suited for someone seeking career progression to the Design Manager role from a junior position, with an established background in delivering residential projects. Your new role: Our Design Managers are valuable members of our business, driving quality outcomes, enhancing buildability, and fostering innovation. They work collaboratively with our customers and industry specialists to ensure that the design develops in accordance with the brief, with a firm focus on added value, compliance, commercial viability, and best practices. As our Design Manager, you will work on a project depending on its technical complexity and size, either as the sole design manager or part of a larger design team. You will have the opportunity to work with our bid and preconstruction team and development managers on development and contracting opportunities, working to develop and grow our business and region. In collaboration with the project team, Lead Designer, and Consultant Team, you will produce and manage a realistic design programme and the information schedule information to satisfy design, procurement, and construction requirements. You will review the current design of the project or package, undertake detailed risk and opportunities appraisal to mitigate risk, enhance buildability, and add value before the construction phase. You will work closely with the Commercial and Operations Teams to ensure all design deliverables are compliant, fully coordinated, buildable, and within budget. You will organise, lead, and contribute to technical workshops, and value management exercises to align expectations. You will ensure compliance with all key stakeholders and have knowledge of key technical legislation and guidance to deliver a compliant design solution. You will ensure the design has been reviewed and verified to achieve compliance and mitigate health and safety, design, and buildability issues before construction, identifying key risks and opportunities at each stage of the design and delivery process.What you'll need to succeed is previous experience in the UK as a Design Manager or Technical Manager for a Main Contractor or a Developer that builds houses or flats. Ideally, you would have a track record of managing the development of a brownfield site into new residential developments. You will hold some form of UK-based education at college or university level, ideally in a construction or engineering related discipline, have the right to work in the UK, have a full driving licence, have a high level of communication, numeracy, IT & digital skills and a good understanding of the construction process. Attention to detail is vital due to the high level of compliance and governance required in the housing sector. You will be based full-time on site and be happy to work in an integrated site office.
