Yard Supervisor - £33,700 - Eastleigh, Hampshire Full-time / Permanent  (40 hours p/w Mon – Fri,  with flexibility for overtime, including evenings and weekends as required)OverviewAs a Yard Supervisor, you will lead the yard operations team in maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, streamlining processes, and ensuring efficient handling of equipment and deliveries. This role requires both hands-on work and supervisory skills to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, support team members, and uphold compliance with safety and procedural standards.Key Responsibilities:Health & Safety Leadership
  • Proactively seek ways to enhance Health & Safety practices in the yard.
  • Monitor and report hazards, near misses, incidents, and accidents promptly, in line with company procedures.
  • Conduct and oversee daily yard inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards, fostering a culture of safety awareness among the team.
Operational Supervision 
  • Coordinate and oversee the loading and unloading of vehicles, verifying hire items against paperwork, noting any missing or damaged items, and ensuring accurate fuel charge assessments.
  • Manage post-hire inspections of returned equipment, including road ramps and drip trays, to ensure all items meet quality standards.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
  • Lead, mentor, and support yard team members, assisting with tasks as required, such as lifting and moving items in the depot or on-site.
  • Organize and direct the yard team in cleaning and preparing hire equipment, using pressure washing and other tools to maintain equipment readiness.
Effective Communication
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the yard team, relaying key information about on-site movements, safety updates, and job specifications.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and embed safety and procedural information into daily team practices.
Equipment and Ancillary Preparation
  • Supervise the preparation of accessories and ancillary items for outgoing jobs, ensuring all necessary items are ready, accurate, and documented.
Delivery and Collection Management
  • Coordinate small deliveries and collections to/from customer sites, suppliers, or within the branch network, ensuring timelines are met and the quality of service remains high.
Flexibility and Team Support
  • Provide flexibility to cover overtime when needed, including evenings and weekends, to support business needs and maintain operational continuity.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding and commitment to Health & Safety standards, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in a yard, logistics, or similar environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills, with a positive approach to supporting and developing team members.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of delivering clear instructions and guidance to the team.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance, cleaning procedures, and yard organization.
  • Proficient with standard IT tools, such as Microsoft Office, for documentation and communication.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred for delivery and collection duties.
  • Flexibility with working hours to support business needs.
