Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with learning disabilities and difficulties? Hays is working with our college to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Functional Skills Tutor to join our dynamic team.


Your new company

We are working with a independent specialist day college who offer a wide range of tailored programmes to meet the individual needs of their learners. Operating from multiple sites across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and South Yorkshire, they provide diverse personal and vocational training opportunities.


Your new role

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching in Mathematics, English, and ICT up to Level 2. You will work across various locations, including college campuses, employer premises, and community settings, so a willingness to travel is essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated teaching sessions to meet the needs of learners with complex and profound needs.
  • Act as a pastoral tutor, managing all aspects of the learner experience.
  • Conduct initial assessments, set goals, and monitor progress to ensure high achievement.
  • Develop and deliver learning materials and assessment plans.
  • Liaise with parents/carers and build effective relationships to support learner success.
  • Champion English, Mathematics, and ICT throughout all sessions.
  • Manage classroom environments and support staff effectively.

What you will need to succeed

Essential Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent.
  • Minimum Level 3 in Maths and English.
  • Minimum Level 2 in ICT.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Additional qualifications relevant to the field of SEND.

Experience:

  • Experience teaching learners with ASC, SLD, and PMLD in a special education setting.
  • Proven track record of delivering functional skills curricula with good outcomes.
