Reed Finance are delighted to be supporting one of our long-standing clients in the Higher Education sector on a new Senior Financial Accountant opportunity.
This is a fantastic time to join the business, and the postion is ideally suited to Chartered Accountants with strong financial reporting skills. Reporting in the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will play pivotal role in overseeing financial accounting, control, and statutory reporting. The successful candidate will manage the University’s financial accounting and external financial reporting, including preparing annual statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Plan and produce the University’s annual Financial Statements, liaising with external auditors, and preparing analyses to support financial data
- Develop and improve financial accounting systems and processes, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
- Regularly reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring prompt rectification of errors and appropriate escalation of issues
- Prepare and submit annual external submissions
- Monitor and forecast University cash flow weekly, liaising with various departments to understand their financial needs
- Ensure VAT records are correct and submissions are made timely
- Oversee the effective running of the Finance Office, managing tasks such as payroll, month-end processes, and supplier payments
- Engage in training and networking to keep technical accounting knowledge current and mentor junior finance team members
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- First degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA).
- Previous experience in a similar role within a complex organisation.
- Excellent time management skills to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial issues to non-financial managers.
- Proactive and flexible approach to work, with a strong customer focus and commitment to service improvement.
