This role is for an Accounts Assistant ideally suited for candidates with knowledge of expense claims maintaining supplier records as well as Accounts Assistants already working in the legal industry seeking a chance to develop a new field. The role involves a mix of working from home and the office.

Job

As an Accounts Asssistant you will be involved with the following;

  • Allocating and processing bank receipts for both client and office accounts.
  • Setting up and reviewing electronic payments (CHAPS, BACS, FastPay, and International) on the firm’s banking platforms, ensuring all Anti-Money Laundering requirements are met before processing.
  • Managing accounting transactions in the firm’s financial management system, including payments, receipts, transfers, and bill payments for both client and office accounts. This also involves handling disbursement transfers, bill reversals, third-party cheques, and bulk transactional uploads throughout the day.
  • Overseeing the opening, closing, and daily transactions of the firm’s client designated bank accounts using the relevant banking platform.
  • Reviewing cheque requests to ensure they are authorized according to the firm’s internal policy and produced within approved timescales.
  • Resolving outstanding items identified during daily bank reconciliations. This includes investigating unmatched items, cancelling cheques over six months old, and returning unallocated funds according to firm procedures.
  • Working closely with Directors, Partners, Fee Earners, and other staff on all aspects of client and firm transactions.
  • Preparing and submitting regular cheque and cash banking.
  • Running the monthly client account system interest calculator and performing any required ad-hoc interest calculations.
  • Electronically filing daily documentation to ensure immediate access for regulatory audits.
  • Providing support during the firm’s annual audit cycle.
  • Attending team meetings, contributing to discussions on cashroom procedures, and keeping process documentation up to date.
  • Assisting with any ad-hoc departmental duties as they arise.
