Role: Actuarial Manager Market Risk Calibration

Location: Edinburgh

Duration: 3 months

Hybrid: 2 days in the office

Job Description:

About the role

We're looking for an experienced actuary to join us to lead the market risk calibration part of the DCA team. This part of the team leads the maintenance and enhancement of several of our Solvency UK Internal Model market risk calibrations, Solvency UK methodologies and our best-estimate economic assumptions. By building from a strong technical base and experience, the role requires deep technical, communication and stakeholder management skills. Areas that the role covers includes:

  • Leading the development and maintenance of methodologies and forward-looking assumptions for various market risk factor calibrations used in the Internal Model. This includes ensuring that models remain within governance, through pro-active engagement with the Risk function.
  • Supporting the maintenance of our Solvency UK methodologies and guiding the business in the interpretation of methodology and Solvency UK regulation.
  • Supporting the business through change by advising the business on the implications of proposed changes in calibrations and methodologies, or on the development of new methodologies and calibrations.
  • Proposing best-estimate economic assumptions and engaging with senior management and auditors on these assumptions.
  • Producing high-quality Committee and Board papers in relation to assumptions and methodologies and presenting the recommendations to committees and stakeholders, including 'deep dive' education materials for Board and other senior stakeholders.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the business and how the risk profile is emerging, so that calibrations and methodologies can respond accordingly whilst also ensuring that regulatory, professional and industry developments are incorporated into our approaches.

In summary, the work is interesting, challenging and varied and also provides the opportunity for close contact with senior management across actuarial and the wider business.
