Astute's renewables team is partnering with a specialist wind and solar energy developer whose mission focuses on making meaningful contributions to net-zero emissions, with a strong emphasis on community benefits. As part of their commitment to growth and innovation, we are seeking an experienced Grid Engineer to join our development teams across wind, solar, and battery storage projects to identify, secure and manage grid capacity for these projects.

The Grid Engineer role comes with a salary up to 80,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Technical Director you will:

  • Design effective grid connection solutions for renewable energy projects, handling application forms, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and reviewing grid offers.
  • Review and assess grid connection offers for technical and commercial accuracy, addressing any issues with network companies as needed.
  • Oversee the accepted grid offer portfolio, ensuring timely payments and progress toward key milestones.
  • Work closely with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and design consultants on contestable works and power system studies, specifying, commissioning, and coordinating with grid consultants as required.
  • Collaborate with project management to incorporate grid connection tasks into project schedules, budgets, and key milestones within the overall project plan.
  • Execute grid-related tasks effectively and provide clear, timely updates to project managers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with UK Distribution and Transmission network operators, electrical consultants, ICPs, and Independent Network Operators.
  • Participate in grid-related seminars and webinars to stay informed on policy changes and share relevant insights with the broader team.


Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of grid systems in the UK, including knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and grid application processes.
  • Experience with DNOs, TOs, ESO, and ICPs to secure and manage grid connection offers.
  • Proficiency in analysing TNUoS and DNUoS charges, TM04+ grid reforms, BELLA and BEGA applications, and other technical grid requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities to review technical documents, interpret grid offers, and ensure accuracy in all grid-related tasks.
  • Clear communication skills to convey complex information to diverse stakeholders, alongside the ability to foster strong relationships with network operators, consultants, and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, with the flexibility to adapt to changing policies, project needs, and technical challenges.
  • Keen understanding of the financial impacts of grid-related decisions and a proactive approach to identifying and solving technical and logistical challenges.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK as needed to support personal and professional development.
