The role – IT Network Engineer

The salary - £40,000 - £44,000

The location – Edinburgh

Hybrid working is available for this role with a minimum of 2 days on-site a week.

I’m working with a fantastic Edinburgh-based organisation as they look to add a Network Engineer to their internal IT team. The successful candidate will support the network team in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the organisations network infrastructure through the management and configuration of the data network.

This role is perfect for a network engineer who enjoys being in an environment where no two days are the same and where you want to be hands on across many different types of infrastructure. There will be the opportunity to work across a range of technologies and work alongside other technical teams as part of the ongoing modernisation project.

Your day-to-day:

  • Systems management and configuration of network infrastructure, including but not limited to applying software and firmware patches, configuration tasks and support on capacity planning.
  • Delivering specialist support to the rest of the infrastructure services on network matters, including root cause diagnosis, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Support with the development of the network infrastructure modernisation project.
  • Automation and scripting, technical design input and documentation.
  • Ensure network security measures are applied across the network.
  • Take part in occasional, and pre-planned, out of hours work to ensure the ongoing stability of the network.
  • Provide input on required upgrades to software and hardware.

About you:

  • You’ll have experience in data networks, including network equipment, architecture and design and network security.
  • You’ll have strong knowledge and experience of network switching and routing.
  • Experience of the Unix operating system.
  • Experience of the management and service delivery of a data network.
  • Strong general IT skills, particularly in root cause diagnosis, fault finding and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to talk technical matters with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Some experience of Data Centre Networking technologies is desirable.
  • CCNA certification (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Experience with HPE and Aruba switches and Fortigate firewalls are desirable.
