The role – IT Systems Administrator
The salary - £33,000 - £37,000
The location – Edinburgh
Hybrid working is available for this role with a minimum of 2 days on-site a week.
I’m working with a notable Edinburgh-based organisation as they look to add an IT Systems Administrator to their team to support with the operation and maintenance of their Linux and Windows based systems, as well as their data storage services. The successful candidate will work within the team responsible for business-critical IT systems, providing ongoing monitoring and maintenance in a fast moving environment.
This role is perfect for anyone who wants to work in an environment where no two days are the same and where you want to be hands on across many different systems. There will be the opportunity to work across a range of technologies and work alongside other technical teams as part of the ongoing modernisation project.
Your day-to-day:
- Support BAU operations of key services and systems on a mixed Linux and Windows environment.
- Maintain services including key email infrastructure, directory services and authentication services.
- Support colleagues across a large multi-site environment with queries and issues, providing excellent support with root cause diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Deal with any system failure, determining whether it is caused by hardware or software malfunction or server compromise.
- Support the team as they continue to develop new services and strengthen existing systems.
- Ensure the integrity of data across all services and systems in line with organisational policy and GDPR regulations.
- Use initiative to ensure effective system and service delivery, detecting potential future problems and developing ways to improve systems.
- Working alongside the Data Centre team to ensure the organisations data centres maintain the required level of service.
About you:
- You’ll have experience or knowledge of systems administration within networked Windows and Linux environments.
- You’ll have fantastic knowledge of Linux, with experience in Windows servers being highly desirable.
- Experience with virtualisation authentication.
- Experience of troubleshooting a range of systems and servers, with strong skills in determining the root cause of issues.
- Knowledge of network technologies, including firewalls and load balancers.
- Experience of scripting languages, such as Python or Powershell, is desirable.
- Knowledge of automation tools, such as Kubernetes or Puppet, is desirable.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
