Service Care Solutions are working with the Scottish Government to find a Assistant Solicitor to support within the Covid19 Inquiry. The Assistant Solicitors will play important roles, working as part of the Inquiry legal team to investigate the evidence and identify witnesses, as well as supporting the management of hearings and production of the interim and final report. The Inquiry legal team will work flexibly and constructively with the Secretariat to ensure the efficient delivery of outcomes and support the Chair.

This is a 8 month Contract and would be a annual salary from: £57,141 this equates to a £294.21 LTD day rate, may have some flexibility.

Main Duties

  • Assisting the Solicitor with contributing to the set-up of the Inquiry.
  • Assisting the Solicitor and Chair in drafting the Inquiry's protocols and key documents.
  • Provision of general legal advice to the Chair and the Inquiry team with particular regard to the application of the Inquiries Act 2005 and the Inquiries (Scotland) Rules 2007, and data handling.
  • Identifying and recovering evidence.
  • Reading into any recovered evidence and, as part of that, identifying further lines of inquiry and witnesses.
  • Taking statements from witnesses and/or you may be managing statement takers.
  • Liaison with the solicitors representing any core participants including instructing and liaising with Counsel.

Essential Criteria

  1. Excellent attention to detail in the provision of clear, fit for purpose, high quality legal advice to agreed deadlines.
  2. Ability to work successfully as part of a legal team.
  3. Candidates must be a solicitor admitted in Scotland or in another UK jurisdiction with an intention to complete the Qualified Lawyers Assessment and hold a current Practising Certificate.
