Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for a Site Supervisor to join their team based at their Torness or Edinburgh Park site on a long-term contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Site professional who has experience of construction standards and basic PM skills including the management of risk for the delivery of projects. Job Purpose
To enact the role of Site Supervisor / Engineers Representative on behalf of the client ensuring that the site based construction activities across EGL1 are efficiently managed in accordance with EGL1 policies, procedures and contract.
Key Accountabilities
• Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is pro-active in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, not least in managing all safety aspects of the construction-based activities
• Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes and proactively monitor all activities, promptly advising the EPC Project Manager of any risks, opportunities or delays to programme which could impact the overall completion date or costs at completion
• Ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks, holding coordination meetings with all contractors on site, ensuring that access/egress to the site is controlled.
• Maintain a site log/diary utilising the project template provided.
• Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Ensure the PC is proactive in holding Site Progress Meetings and issues minutes of these Meetings.
• Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Project
• Undertake the role of Engineers representative for sensible monitoring of site construction activities and be familiar with all aspects of the contract documentation.
• Enacting the role of Employers ‘Supervisor' under NEC contracts, and the same role under FIDIC Contracts.
• Issue site instructions following agreement from the EPC Project Manager and authenticate any record sheets issued by the Principal Contractor.
• Assist EGL1's Commissioning Engineer to review and confirm that the PC Commissioning programme is acceptable from a delivery perspective.
• Ensure that a drawing documentation system is established on site, which clearly indexes drawings logged and filed in specific sections.
• Maintain the system throughout with the latest working drawings/revisions clearly noted and drawings filed to ensure they are readily available.
• Coach, mentor other members of staff as and when required.
•Collate information to support accidents, incidents and near miss reporting
•Implement client sensible monitoring system.
•Attending Weekly Site Progress Meetings.
•Assisting PC to prepare and issue the project H&S file
•Encourage and promote a positive SHES culture with our contractors.
•Establish and maintain risk based sensible monitoring assurance programs for SHEQ activities.
•Review and implement improvement initiatives resultant of sensible monitoring of site construction activities and manage the close out of issues raised through SHEQ audit & inspection activities and implementation across the
Project(s) SHEQ audit & inspection activities and implementation across the project
•Provide up to date project performance and technical advice
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Know How
Interpersonal, Supervisory or Management
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
Technical or Specialist
• Extensive experience of construction standards especially with regards to Overhead Lines, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling.
• Basic Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
• Basic understanding of various Contract forms such as NEC 3 / 4 and FIDIC.
• Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies.
• Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment.
Qualifications
Essential (at appointment):
• Essential to have a current full UK driving licence.
Essential
• HNC / HND or equivalent experience in an engineering and or construction discipline.
• Formal training in the following areas: Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Quality management, Environmental, Duty of Care and Waste Management, Contract Terms and Conditions.
Desirable:
Familiar with transmission operator Safety Rules. Experience of working on large construction sites.
Experience of working at 275kV and/or 400kV
Foundation knowledge of one or more disciplines: Overhead Lines, Substations, Cabling, HDD and/or HVDC.
