Maintenance Technician

Reed Recruitment are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our clients team in Edinburgh. This role involves hands-on maintenance work to ensure the smooth functioning of facilities, providing a safe and satisfactory environment for both working and learning. 

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Maintain the buildings and grounds of the school, ensuring all facilities are in excellent condition.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on school buildings and mechanical and electrical equipment to professional standards.
  • Carry out painting and decorating tasks as needed across the school premises.
  • Lead and supervise Estates Assistants in performing maintenance tasks.
  • Manage subcontractors performing maintenance and installation work on the school’s premises.
  • Deputise for other leadership roles within the Estates Team as necessary.
  • Ensure all paths and external areas are clean, clear of debris, and maintained throughout the year, including ice and snow removal in winter.
  • Set up rooms for school and other uses, perform porterage tasks, and manage the locking and unlocking of school facilities on a rotational basis.
  • Assist in manning a road crossing to ensure the safe crossing of pupils. 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician or similar role.
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks.
  • Strong leadership skills to supervise and lead a team.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and practices.
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a facilities team and manage subcontractors effectively.
  • Flexibility to work on Saturdays on a rotational basis (1 in 3 or 1 in 4, no Sunday work).
