Lab Technician
Rate of pay - 14.93 per hour
Location - Edinburgh East
Hours - 36 hours per week. Mon - Wed, Sat & Sun. Flexible with hours between 8am & 6pm
Duration - 3 months with possible extension
Immediate start

The successful candidate will be:
  • Carry out scientific analysis/examination of samples or site investigations within set precision and accuracy standards to meet or exceed customer requirements of quality & turnaround time within a UKAS quality assurance framework.
  • Maintaining stocks of glassware, chemicals, gases and other materials
  • Carrying out analysis of samples in the laboratory or on site using a range of microscopical, wet chemical and/or instrument techniques
  • Collecting, cleaning and, where appropriate, decontaminating laboratory equipment, glassware, sampling bottles and storage containers
  • Cleaning the laboratory premises, particularly the communal benches, cupboards and shelves, fume cupboards, corridors, wash-up area and storage areas
  • Transferring samples from reception area to the appropriate storage places
  • Disposing of old samples or arrange for their disposal in accordance with laboratory procedures
  • Arranging safe and recorded storage of specific completed samples required for future reference
  • Arranging for the safe return of specific samples as requested by customers
  • Providing a delivery and collection service for the laboratory as required

You should:
  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant scientific field
  • Have experience within a UKAS accredited testing laboratory
  • Have experience of undertaking scientific analysis, examination and interpretation
  • Driving licence is desirable
