The role – IT Systems Team Lead

The salary - £50,000 - £60,000

The location – Edinburgh

I’m working with a fantastic Edinburgh-based organisation as they look to add an IT Systems Team Lead to their Infrastructure team, responsible for leading the team that deal with critical IT infrastructure platforms. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a large-scale, and rapidly changing, technical environment as part of a newly formed team covering both the Windows and Linux estate.

This role is perfect for a people-orientated technical team leader who enjoys being in an environment where no two days are the same and where you want to be hands on across many different types of infrastructure. There will be the opportunity to work across a range of technologies and work alongside other technical teams as part of the ongoing modernisation projects.

Your day-to-day:

  • You’ll lead a team of Infrastructure engineers managing services across a Windows and Linux estate, providing direction, mentoring and people management to the team.
  • Be a point of escalation within third line support, troubleshooting a wide range of technical issues.
  • Maintain legacy applications whilst supporting the ongoing transformation efforts as they continue to modernise their IT infrastructure.
  • Support in the integration of services such as Active Directory with EntraID and Azure as part of a cloud-first mindset.
  • Lead in the maintenance and security across all IT services.
  • Maintain services including email infrastructure, directory services, data backups and authentication.
  • Work with the IT Manager to deliver on the organisations IT strategy.

About you:

  • You’ll have strong people management skills and experience of managing IT technical teams.
  • You’ll have knowledge across the full Windows tech stack infrastructure, with knowledge of Linux desirable as well.
  • An awareness of IT security across a range of software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of system administration of networked Windows and Linux servers.
  • Knowledge of storage management products and web servers.
  • Knowledge of network technologies including application switching, directory services and package configuration.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Perl or Python is desirable.
