Hudson Shribman is looking for a Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of precision hydraulic and motion control systems. This role involves producing detailed manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and hydraulic schematics while ensuring designs meet functional and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Design mechanical assemblies, including actuators, solenoid control manifolds, cardan bearings, and load cells.
- Produce General Assembly (GA) drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, and associated documentation to support procurement and production.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, such as the Machinery Directive and Pressure Equipment Directive.
- Utilize 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) to create new designs and update existing components.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to implement Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Manage assigned design projects, tracking progress and resolving technical issues.
- Support production and service teams in resolving engineering challenges and improving product reliability.
- Conduct design reviews and collaborate with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design guidelines and construction files.
- Assist with risk assessments, method statements, and test procedures.
- HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 2 years’ experience in mechanical design, preferably within hydraulic/pneumatic systems or precision-engineered components.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and a strong understanding of BS 8888 & GD&T.
- Experience producing high-quality manufacturing drawings and selecting appropriate materials.
- Ability to conduct tolerance analysis and ensure designs meet manufacturing requirements.
- Knowledge of DraftSight or similar software for updating 2D drawings is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to fault-finding and technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
