Head Of Quality

Reporting to the General Manager, this role is key to the site leadership team and always requires the highest standards of collaboration and engagement whilst maintaining the required level of challenge across the organisation. Our customers are rightly demanding of the quality of our products and the Head of Quality will be a credible primary contact for them.

The role will be the subject matter expert for quality in the business and will be skilled and experienced to be able to do this effectively.

The role will lead on Quality across all functions and will also be the team lead for the Quality team.

Accountabilities include:

Proactively lead and coordinate all Quality related activities

Increase and maintain the profile of Quality within the organisation

Lead the Quality strategy for the site

Lead the site to implement and maintain an effective quality system that is actively owned by the leadership team and maintains AS9100 approval

Develop and successfully implement Quality objectives that foster a continuous improvement mind-set that aligns with Zero Defects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strong relations with customers and registrars
  • Implement a system of governance and cadence that achieves shared ownership by the site leadership team and monitors and controls Quality and process adherence across the site
  • Implement and sustain a quality control system and a quality improvement programme that drives for Zero Defects
  • Establish SMART business quality objectives that are agreed and owned by all functions
  • Maintain AS9100 registration
  • Develop the required quality skills across the organisation and the Quality function
  • Recruit, manage and develop Quality staff with appropriate competencies and knowledge to deliver the required performance
  • Coordinate the timely resolution of quality issues and share lessons learned across the site
  • Be a role model for Quality and demonstrate high levels of knowledge and skill in Quality by coaching the site leadership
  • Implement impactive cross business training and awareness programmes for Quality

Core Competencies:

Experienced Quality Management professional with experience in the Aerospace Industry and automotive volume quality methods

Technically strong in manufacturing or industrialisation of products

Able to challenge and stand alone to support Quality where required

Core Skills:

  • Experience of managing a quality function within aerospace
  • Management and audit of Quality
  • AS9100 Quality Management Systems
  • Excellent customer and regulatory relationship building skills
  • Expert in Zero Defects and quality improvement skills (Six sigma, APQP, 8D)
  • Experience of collaboration and management of change
  • Strong influencer
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Quality Auditing

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years in Quality
  • 8+ years experience of manufacturing processes
  • Degree or equivalent in engineering, science or quality. (preferably Production/Manufacturing Engineering)
  • Member of the CQI or other professional body
