Transport Planner

General Haulage Industry

Ellesmere Port, Cheshire

£30,000 - £35,000  

We are currently recruiting for a Transport Planner to join a dynamic transport team, supporting the scheduling, vehicle planning, and driver management within the road transport operation.

The Candidate:

  • Experience in transport route planning, particularly within tanker distribution.
  • Previous experience in general haulage or container loads is beneficial.
  • Ability to manage time effectively under pressure and meet challenging targets.
  • Dynamic problem-solving approach for resource planning and resolution adjustments.
  • PC literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive Regulations.
  • A valid Full UK driving License.
  • Experience with tachographs and Transport Management Systems (TMS).
  • Good geographic knowledge.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work independently and make decisions when required.
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on contributing to a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to question, challenge, and improve upon existing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently and compliantly manage the road transport operations, including customer engagement, vehicle planning, and driver management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Develop and manage relationships with drivers.
  • Issue delivery documentation to drivers and ensure all paperwork is correctly completed.
  • Cross-check driver paperwork to ensure all work is accurately reflected in the daily plan and in the system.
  • Collect and verify driver timesheets to ensure accuracy against the work completed.
  • Respond to all enquiries promptly via phone.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours ‘on-call’ rota as required.
  • Comply with the company’s Health & Safety and Quality Management policies in all areas of work.
