Estimator - 6 month contract - Based in South Mimms, Potters Bar

Our Client has a requirement for an Estimator, who will be required to work on a Contract basis in South Mimms, Potters bar.

Role Purpose:

Join our Asset Delivery team as an Estimator, initially valuing the Asset Management Forward Work Plan. In this role, you will:
• Support the Managing and Senior Estimators in developing estimates from 1st Principles for civil portions of multi-disciplined Highways Projects across various stages of the estimating process.
• Be an active member of the team developing project pricing.
• Assist senior team members in presenting, negotiating, and justifying the produced prices to senior leaders within the business or to external customers/partners, ensuring transparency and honesty.

• Undertake estimates in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
• Review customer drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labor, and equipment.
• Oversee and/or interrogate design options and “value” solutions. Where applicable, assess the attractiveness of a project using sound estimating principles.
• Record assumptions, and identify risks and opportunities, supporting the development of risk evaluations from a pricing and budgetary perspective.

Accountabilities:

• Lead small/medium-size bids to ensure tender deliverables are produced in a timely and effective manner.
• Support and/or interrogate design options and value solutions, assessing project attractiveness based on sound estimating principles. This includes:

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with company procedures, including the pre-construction gate process.
  • Reviewing tender documents and submission requirements, ensuring all financial information is identified and provided, and that accurate, compliant design proposals are included.
  • Establishing and agreeing on key rates.
  • Collaborating with engineering and planning teams on key methods, outputs, and plant selection.
  • Analyzing subcontractor proposals in detail.

Experience & Skills:

Background in Infrastructure Main Contracting.

• Previous experience in an estimating role (commercial or operational backgrounds are also considered).
• Working towards or chartered with a relevant industry-recognized chartership (e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB) – Desirable.
• Experience with estimating software (e.g., Candy Estimating Software) – Desirable but not essential.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze complex data and documentation accurately.
• Proficient in general IT applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
