A Teaching Assistant is needed for a special educational needs (SEN) school in North London for students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).

As a teaching assistant, you will support secondary school students aged 11-19, who need extra support than what is offered in mainstream schools.

This school is easily accessible from around London, with great transport links.

Being a teaching assistant at this school, you will become a part of a highly supportive team with exceptional senior leadership and fantastic resources.

Willingness to do personal care is preferred.

Your responsibilities as a teaching assistant may include:

  • Working with and supporting students with ASD.
  • Providing academic support, either one-on-one or in a small group.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture and providing emotional support when needed.
  • Implementing positive behaviour management strategies which may include physical restraints, to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control.
  • Assisting teachers with alternative teaching methods, such Lego therapy to encourage joint working and communication skills, or intensive interaction sessions to help pupils develop attention and interaction skills.
  • Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

To be a teaching assistant, you will need:

  • The right to work in the UK.
  • A clear and up-to-date DBS
  • Experience working as a Teacher in a UK school.
  • A patient and 'can-do' attitude
