GSL Education are looking for a compassionate and adaptable Class Teacher with a SEMH specialism to join our dedicated team in Enfield. Responsibilities of the Class Teacher – SEMH Specialist:

  • Plan and Deliver Tailored Lessons – Design and implement engaging lessons that support the academic and emotional development of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Create a Nurturing Learning Environment – Establish a safe, supportive, and structured classroom where students feel valued, respected, and motivated to learn.
  • Differentiate Instruction – Adapt teaching strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and emotional needs.
  • Manage Challenging Behaviour – Use positive behaviour management strategies to promote self-regulation, resilience, and social skills.
  • Support Emotional Well-being – Provide a compassionate and understanding approach to help students manage their emotions and build confidence.
  • Monitor and Assess Progress – Track student achievements and well-being, providing regular feedback and adjusting teaching approaches accordingly.
  • Work Collaboratively – Liaise with SENCOs, therapists, pastoral staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support for students.
  • Engage with Parents and Carers – Maintain open communication with families to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to student development.
  • Promote Inclusion – Encourage students to develop independence and social interaction skills, preparing them for future opportunities.
  • Uphold Safeguarding Standards – Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to school policies and safeguarding procedures.

Requirements for the Class Teacher – SEMH Specialist:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in a specialist or mainstream setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to apply for one.
