Our Corporate Health and Safety Advisors play a key role in ensuring the well-being of staff and stakeholders by advising on all aspects of health and safety within the organisation. You will be responsible for promoting and implementing health and safety policies, delivering training, and ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry standards.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Providing expert advice on health and safety issues across the council
  • Ensuring compliance with current and proposed health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and council policies
  • Developing and implementing pro-active health and safety management systems
  • Conducting and managing health and safety audits and inspections
  • Delivering health and safety training programs to staff and managers
  • Investigating incidents and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Reporting to senior management on health and safety performance and compliance

  • Internal council departments
  • External contractors and consultants
  • Senior management and staff at all levels
  • Regulatory authorities and industry bodies

Minimum Requirements for the Role:

  • A NEBOSH Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent qualification)
  • Chartered or Graduate Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Strong knowledge of current and proposed health and safety legislation and codes of practice
  • Experience in pro-active health and safety management and advising on health and safety issues, preferably within the Local Government sector
  • Ability to deliver health and safety training and manage audits
