Corporate Health and Safety Advisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a successful Health and Safety Team within a local council. This role offers the chance to play a key part in managing and continuously improving health and safety performance across council services and employees. The successful candidate will contribute by developing, implementing, and promoting health and safety policies, strategies, principles of prevention, and risk management.

About the Role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for promoting best practices throughout the council and within schools. The role involves providing expert advice, guidance, and support on policies and legislative requirements to various council services.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in corporate and school-related health and safety management, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting a proactive approach to risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the auditing, development, and implementation of health and safety management systems.
  • Developing performance indicators and evaluating statistical analysis to inform decision-making.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and effective risk management across all areas.
  • Delivering health and safety training to employees and stakeholders.
  • Providing expert advice on a range of health and safety issues within council services.

The Ideal Candidate

The role requires a resilient, highly motivated, and well-organised professional with the ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) as a minimum qualification.
  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
  • A thorough understanding of current and proposed health and safety legislation and codes of practice, with the ability to apply them practically.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proactive health and safety management.
  • Providing advice on health and safety issues.
  • Premises safety or facilities management.
  • Occupational health and/or environmental health matters.
  • Delivering health and safety training.
  • Conducting and managing health and safety audits.
