About the Role:

Milk Education is currently recruiting on behalf of a wonderful primary school in Enfield, North London, who are seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with a Year 2 pupil with special educational needs. The role will begin after the half-term break, and the school is looking for a dedicated individual with a real passion for supporting young children with additional needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Year 2 pupil on a 1:1 basis to help them engage with the curriculum, develop their communication skills, and manage any emotional or behavioral challenges. The role involves supporting the pupil during lessons, as well as providing help during break times to ensure positive social interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with additional learning needs, assisting them with accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Utilize visual aids, communication strategies, and tailored resources to support the pupil’s understanding of lessons and tasks.
  • Support the pupil during break times and lunch periods, promoting positive social interactions and helping them develop their social and emotional skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to supporting the pupil’s development.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment, where the pupil feels safe, confident, and motivated to engage.
  • Contribute to tracking the pupil’s progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO, and adapting support strategies as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with primary-aged children (preferably Year 2 or KS1), with a focus on supporting special educational needs (SEN).
  • Strong understanding of how to support children with learning difficulties, communication challenges, or emotional needs.
  • Experience with using visual communication tools, such as PECS, social stories, or other resources to enhance understanding.
  • Patient, calm, and empathetic, with the ability to build strong relationships with children and provide emotional support.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach, willing to work as part of a team and collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to the pupil’s individual needs, ensuring they receive the right level of support to thrive in the classroom.
