Milk Education are recruiting a full-time Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to work 1:1 with a child in a Year 2 class at a lovely primary school in Enfield, North London. The successful candidate will provide dedicated support to the child, ensuring their learning and development needs are met throughout the school day. Working hours are 8:30-16:00, Monday to Friday.

Experience supporting children with additional needs is essential, although qualifications are not mandatory.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) role & responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a child in Year 2 with additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum
  • Assist the child with their social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Work alongside the class teacher to implement individual learning plans (ILPs) and adapt tasks to suit the child’s specific needs
  • Support the child during break times and transitions between activities
  • Help with communication and behavioural strategies, ensuring the child feels included in all classroom activities
  • Observe and record progress, feeding back to the teacher on the child’s development and areas of improvement

Non-negotiables:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) in a voluntary or paid capacity (within the last 2 years)
  • A good understanding of various SEN, including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A compassionate and patient approach to working with children with additional needs
