Job Opportunity: 1:1 School-Based Psychologist (Supporting Children with SEN Needs)

Are you a compassionate and skilled psychologist with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 School-Based Psychologist to work closely with children who require additional emotional and educational support within our inclusive primary school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one psychological support for children with SEN, helping them manage emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties.
  • Conduct assessments to identify children’s specific needs and collaborate with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and external professionals to create tailored intervention plans.
  • Work alongside classroom staff to support the integration of therapeutic strategies into the student’s daily learning environment.
  • Use evidence-based practices to assist children in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and social interaction strategies.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of the children you support, adjusting interventions as necessary and reporting to school leadership and parents.
  • Offer guidance and support to staff and parents on strategies to help SEN students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Promote the emotional well-being and mental health of students, ensuring a supportive, nurturing school environment.

Requirements:

  • A qualified psychologist with experience in working with children with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, learning disabilities).
  • Knowledge of child development and experience in delivering psychological assessments and interventions within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Empathy, patience, and a passion for making a difference in children’s lives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the wider school support structure.
