Trainee Electrical Design Engineer - Surrey

We are seeking an enthusiastic, analytical, and forward-thinking Trainee Electrical Design Engineer to develop the skills required for ensuring the safe adoption of distribution networks operating up to 11kV. This role offers hands-on training and mentorship to help you gain expertise in network design, compliance, and asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with compliance checks for design, construction, and safety standards.

  • Supporting senior engineers in liaising with customers regarding network design issues.

  • Learning to evaluate applications from other network operators or customers for connections onto networks, including network reinforcement assessments.

  • Supporting the management of relationships with upstream parties for capacity and demand negotiations.

  • Assisting in the creation of CAD designs and drawings where required.

  • Gaining experience in developing safety and risk assessment requirements for design and adoption stages.

  • Understanding and contributing to compliance with health and safety policies.

  • Supporting the implementation of asset management system requirements.

  • Participating in reviews and updates of operational procedures and technical standards.

Person Specification

  • Interest in electricity design/analysis with a willingness to learn IT-based design software.

  • Exposure to or interest in software modeling tools such as Windebut, Amtech, IPSA, or similar is beneficial.

  • A proactive, flexible, and adaptable approach to learning in a fast-paced environment.

  • Training and mentorship will be provided to help develop the necessary skills for the role.
