Our client, a leading commercial glazing and shopfront specialist, is seeking a skilled CAD Technician to join their team. This role involves producing detailed technical drawings for glazing, aluminium shopfronts, curtain walling, and related installations across various commercial projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience in AutoCAD and other design software, with a strong understanding of commercial glazing systems, façades, and structural detailing. They will work closely with project managers, estimators, and installation teams to ensure designs meet project specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for glazing, shopfronts, curtain walling, and façade systems.
  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings to create detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Ensure drawings comply with project requirements, industry standards, and building regulations.
  • Work closely with project managers and estimators to develop design solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation and issue revisions as required throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain drawing registers and ensure all documentation is up to date and accessible.
  • Communicate with suppliers to incorporate manufacturer specifications into designs.
  • Assist with client queries related to design details and technical specifications.
  • Provide technical support to site teams, ensuring designs are implemented correctly.
  • Attend site meetings as required to assist in design coordination and problem-solving.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a CAD Technician in the commercial glazing, shopfront, or façade industry.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
  • Strong understanding of aluminium shopfronts, curtain walling, glass installations, and structural interfaces.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Design.
  • Experience with Revit, SolidWorks, or BIM software.
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards related to glazing and shopfront installations.
